Intermittent fasting can be safe for many people with type 2 diabetes, but you should consult your doctor first as fasting can affect blood sugar and medication timing.

Persistent Headaches and Fatigue

I've been experiencing frequent headaches for the past few weeks, usually in the afternoon, along with unusual fatigue and difficulty concentrating. I sleep around 7 hours a night and haven't made any major changes to my diet or routine. The headaches aren't severe, but they're becoming more frequent. What could be causing these symptoms, and what should I consider doing about them?

Is it normal for a mole to change colour slowly over a few years?

I've had the same mole since I was a teenager, and over three or four years it's gone noticeably darker. Shape and size look the same. No itching or bleeding.

Hello Doctor, I am asking about my mother’s health.

Hello Doctor,
I am asking about my mother’s health. She is 52 years old and recently went through menopause. For the past 2–3 months she has been urinating very frequently, and it is getting worse day by day.
She does not have pain, burning, fever, or blood in urine, but she feels strong urgency and sometimes leaks urine, especially when laughing. It is affecting her daily life a lot.
She has a thyroid condition diagnosed by a doctor and is taking her thyroid medicine, magnesium, and vitamins. Her sleep is mostly okay.
We are worried and want to know what could be the cause (and what tests or treatment you would recommend.
Thank you for your time.

Hi @robinhoodlola  it's not possible to diagnose the cause of this online, she would benefit from a visit with a primary care doctor/GP or gynaecologist to check. Based on the information you've given, overactive bladder and menopause-related urinary changes are among the more likely possibilities as you seem to suspect, but examination followed by a urine test and diabetes screening are important first steps a GP could help with as they are common and potentially treatable causes.

Hi @Akash Im afraid I do not have enough information to assess this as an examination is required. If you are experiencing persisting dizziness or other associated symptoms, dont delay having a check up with your doctor.

Swollen Eyes / hospital dont know what to do anymore

Hello, I was travelling in Thailand.and got some kind of infection. My eye doctor and then the hospital in my country did several tests, took blood, gave me different kind of medication. And they have no idea anymore. May someone (local) have an idea?
My vision on my right eye is really bad.
Chlamydia or any other sexual diseases: negative
Pink eye: negative
adenovirus : negative
Now my thought:: tapeworm(?) Cause of raw beef.

Here my travel list, with possible facts which may cause some infection:
Was swimming in a (possible dirty) swimming pool. Also I ate soi chu ( raw beef) but didn't like it.
Got bitten by leeches on my feet when I was visiting a national park.
Had sex without protection
Swimming in the sea and also at the waterfalls ( no rain, so it was more like a pond)

Hi @DrHelp Im afraid I do not have enough information to assess this, would you have a picture? You may be having an infection, allergy, or other type of condition - and may need to see a general practitioner/family doctor for further evaluation if the eye tests came back negative.

Is this eye cancer?

So I have had this lump in my eye for about two years maybe longer but noticed it then. It moves around if pressed and it is not painful at all. It is not necessarily squishy but a hard smooth mass, and I can also press it behind my brow bone. I have no blurry vision but I have no way of telling since I do wear glasses but when I am wearing my glasses my vision is not blurry. I also have a smaller one in my left eye as well.  I really hope this is not cancer or that I will have my eye removed.

Hi @keedyg , from what you describe eye cancer sounds unlikely. In order to confirm this minimally a physical examination by your doctor would be required. Do follow-up with a provider in-person for an examination.

Does this X-ray look okay?
I hurt the top of my foot. I went to the ER, the radiologist was not there. The doctor who took care of me was the one who did the X-ray while on FaceTime being told how to do it. It was his first week as a doctor. 😬

Hi TKD, sorry to hear about your foot injury. From the limited pictures provided there doesn’t seem to be any major fractures. However the X-ray views don’t include an AP view of the foot so you may want to have further checks if the pain doesn’t resolve or if there’s trouble weight bearing on the foot due to pain.

Hi @Sagarsingh29f the fluid on the eye surface is called the tear film, which is a complex mixture of oil, water, and mucus that coats the cornea, conjunctiva, and sclera, keeping the eye moist and lubricated. Try not to touch the eye as doing so can introduce dirt or dust, and potentially lead to infection.

I have nerve damage in my arm from an injury in 2020. I got my flu shot about 3 days ago in the same arm as the injury and my full arm is still very sore and swollen. Is that normal?

TJ Tanken JinOrthopedics · Orthosports Clinic @ Novena
Hello,  it’s coming after a flu shot to have aches at the deltoid muscle and around the shoulder. This is most probably the reason for your soreness and swelling. It generally should resolve over a few days, so if it doesn’t then it might be good to get your symptoms evaluated at a clinic. Hope that helps!

Hairline fracture from past injury
Hi Dr.s I had a past injury (3years ago) from football, when a player stomped on my right feet which resulted in a hairline fracture (went for an x-ray)
No follow up appointments, only given pain medicine and I continue playing for my team due to lack of players.

It is not causing me any concern but prolonged wearing of football boots would hurt my right foot. Can individuals completely heal from a hairline fracture? Should I be concerned? Thank you

TJ Tanken JinOrthopedics · Orthosports Clinic @ Novena
Hi Yongkun, a hairline fracture should heal reliably given 1-3 months, but it may take extra time. The fracture might appear to be completely healed, but keep in mind that the bone needs to remodel 1% per year. Every day you wait will give you one more week until the bone is back to 100%. If you start "bearing weight" early enough after injury, then bolster with immobilization once extra stability is needed for support it should be fine.
Of course there are other factors that can influence how well a bone heals like smoking and diabetes which can increase your risk of added complications - so avoid these behaviors if possible by quitting smoking and taking care of your blood sugar before a break or fracture occurs!

Ankle and Knee joints cracking and popping sounds
Hello Drs. I am an active individual who frequents the gym and runs every once or twice a week. Whenever I perform squats in the gym or begin running, there would be a pop sound at my joints followed by a slight feeling of uncomfort-ness and mild weakness that would go away after a while. What are they and should I be concerned about them?

TJ Tanken JinOrthopedics · Orthosports Clinic @ Novena
Hello Yongkun, thanks for your query.  A pop sound or sensation in your ankles or knees with exercise is a fairly non-specific symptom. Generally so long as the joints function well and the discomfort doesn’t persist, there should not be any major issues. However in come cases the pops can be due to some laxity or hyper mobility and other causes, and if the symptoms are troublesome it can be useful to get it checked out by a De

My wife is 8 days mens delay. Does that mean she is pregnant?

I would also like to know what is the best pill to force her menses for we just have a baby and its 7 months old. We don't want another baby yet. Hope someone can help us out. Thanks.

ST Steven TeoObstetrics and Gynecology · STO+G Laparoscopy & Fertility Practice

The best thing to do next is a simple urine pregnancy test at home. If the test is negative, you may wait for another week to see if menstruation starts naturally. If it is still delayed, please repeat the pregnancy test. You may need to see a gynaecologist for a pelvic scan if the period is delayed for more than 2-3 weeks; the appropriate medicine should be given to induce menstrual flow after the scan. If it is indeed an unplanned pregnancy, you may then arrange with the gynaecologist for the appropriate management.
